First Channel

Founded on November 29, 1956, it is Armenia’s first television channel. Initially focused on cultural, artistic, and children’s programming, it later expanded to include news and socio-political content. After independence, the broadcaster became more diverse and free, adopting new formats and technologies. Today, the First Channel remains Armenia’s leading public broadcaster, offering a wide range of programs with digital and HD broadcasting.

Executive Director

Margarita Grigoryan

Margarita Grigoryan is a prominent Armenian media executive whose career spans more than 30 years across television, radio, print media, public administration, and academia. Widely recognized for her contribution to the development of Armenia’s modern media landscape, she has combined editorial expertise, strategic leadership, and academic insight throughout her professional journey. Grigoryan began her career in journalism in the early 1990s, contributing to leading Armenian newspapers and the Armenpress news agency while still a student. In 1993, she joined Public Radio of Armenia, where she worked as an editor and later as a producer and chief editor of socio-political programming. Her early work was marked by a strong focus on public affairs, social issues, and political analysis during a formative period in Armenia’s post-independence media environment.
